2 Seperate Transmission Questions

Question 1. I have a 700r4 that is slipping in the first-second shift but only at WOT and only in D or OD, but not if I manual shift it. I installed a Transgo shift kit to try to correct this, and while overall drivability has improved I still get the extremely sloppy 1-2 shift. If anyone has any ideas I'm open to suggestions.

Question 2. Are '87 V6 T5's world class or is that only the V8's, and what type of clutch setup would you need to put it behind a v8, I know it has a different spline count. Also would it hold up to a 260HP/340TQ 350, if I'm nice to it?

Q1: In Man 1&2 Line Pressure is maxed which could account for the difference in shift quality. No VB Kit will fix a bad Band and/or Drum. Not uncommon to see the Band slip and warp the Reverse Drum.

Q2: Sorry, I keep myself busy with Auto's!

would there be any other indications if something was wrong with the band? All of my gears still grab really hard and shift great all the way up to wot, but then it just revvs for a second or 2 before shifting sloppily into second. It's also been doing it for 2 years without gettinng any worse.

on the t5 question, not sure about WC or NWC, but i do know what you have to do to make the v6 tranny work on a v8.

naturally, gotta get a bellhousing for a v8 it has to be from a third gen f-body, get your self the flywheel, 153 tooth, that is meant for a 10.5 inch clutch. get a regular v8 pressure plate, and then go to

www.mcleodind.com

on about page 7 you will find a section of clutch disks, that are for a 14 splinf 1 inch diameter input shaft, and order the 10.5 inch disk of your choice, the have several different grades.

will it hold up if you are nice to it, yes. don't drop the clutch at 5k rpm , and all that good fun stuff all the time and it will probly last,

i just got done putting a t5 in my car, it came from a 4 cyl firebird, we will see how long it lasts, a couple friends, told me it'll be gone in a month, i am out to prove them wrong in a big way.

as far as the difference between wc and nwc it really doesn't mean much, the wc has different synchros, and some roller bearings in place of the bushing type bearings in a nwc t5, the strength rating is the same or very slightly different, for a better explanation, of the differences i turn this over to rb83l69, he may stick his nose in here, he knows his $hit:hail:

Depending on the condition of the parts in question, you could install the Corvette servo, both boost valves (.296 & .500) along with the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit and fix the problems you describe.

I installed the vette servo, and which ever new boost valves came with the shift kit, maybe I just need to run it in a little maybe? I've only driven it once since i installed the kit, so could that be it?

also when i had the servo out, there were some chunks of broken spring below the 2nd piston, and the internal snapring I was supposed to throw away didn't exist.

What do you mean, "I just need to run it in a little maybe?" I thought you said it has been this way for 2 years now? If there was a broken spring in the 2-4 servo area?, you might have a leak at the apply area of the servo accounting for the slow 1-2 shift. You state "All of my gears still grab really hard and shift great all the way up to wot, but then it just revvs for a second or 2 before shifting sloppily into second." Which is it a soft 2nd gear?, or a firm one?, it can not be both.

sorry about the confusion,

I've only driven it once since i put the shift kit in, but it was doing the same thing before, and by grabbing gears I meant once i'm in a gear it doesn't slip at all, it's just between 1-2 that the problem shows up. I checked the servo housing again and didn't see any damage, and it's clean as a whistle.

And I meant that everything shifts fine and dandy at all throttle other than wot, if i go 3/4 throttle then 1-2 is really good, but at full throttle then it slips around some.
