Anyone using a Carbon Fiber Driveshaft?

Does anyone here have experience with carbon-fiber driveshafts? How much lighter and stronger are they compared to aluminum?

Thanks,
BILL

Yeah I am running one.

As for weight they are similar but the carbon shaft is a little lighter. As for strength the carbon shaft wins here. They had problems with the early shafts that were producted, the epoxy the glued the tube to the yolk ends would fail, but they have solved that problem years ago (1997). They still have some problems with keeping the balance weights on though. I have had to use a Devcon epoxy and then a reinforced woven tape over that, just to keep the weights on.

The real nice thing about the carbon shaft is that it absorbs drivetrain harmonics (better than an alloy shaft) and vibration. I have worked with ACPT Advanced Composites developing shafts for various applications over the years and they are the industry leader in composite drivshaft tech.

Chacane,

i believe his post was in regards to the other thread starter 82Z28_Camaro, with his 1000hp 1100 ft/lbs engine. i believe he has nothing against you. let's not misconstrue the facts now. lets be nice and all get along

Yeah, well lets hear that from him. I dont believe in middle men. If someone questions my background and/or experience, all they have to do is ask.

I'm one hell of lot more mature than say that of Mookie or Foolio who had posted that schwag, but one should not make implications of it to someone else either.

Peace-out

Oh yeah, just to support my cause, here's a thread to my project:

If I remember correctly the shaft was right about $700.00. Yeah I know, ouch.

-edit-

Yeah I still think you can purchase directly. I havent had to purchase another one since I found what epoxy works to keep the weights on! Also, I think Mark Williams, SLP, Lingenfelter, Callaway and other tuners are selling the shafts too, or at-least MW is using the tubes produced by ACPT.

And ede, you've got mail. Sorry guys, being an FNG around here I havent really caught onto peoples personalities and I think I read into what ede stated......so take me out back kick me around a little.

chacane67,

Did you notice any performance improvement? They are claiming a 5% increase because of reduced mass and vibration

Thanks for your help.

There may be 5% from a steel shaft, but when youre throwing around 630 HP, 5% is not really noticeable. Although, the reduction in vibration was.....
