4L60 E '95 only?
i am installing a '95 LT1 in my '92. i have a harness that is for that car.(1995) it sais it will run 4L60E & 4L80E. I want to upgrade, and i want to use a 4L60E. the wrecking yards here keep telling me that it was one year only, and so they want to rape me for the tranny. is this true? is there a way around it? what are these trannys worth? please help. this project has overwhelmed me, (the whole swap), and i just want it to come out right.

Both 94 and 95 got the 4L60E. 96-02 got it also. There might be a difference in the 96+ due to OBDII, but I'm not sure. They should all be the same. You can use a Vette tranny, but you will need to change the tailshaft. The Vette has no provisions for a torque arm.

95-97 4L60E should work. Like transfixleo said you need the correct PCM to get the correct interface between engine and transmission. 1995 was pre OBD2 but it still is a pretty smart PCM for the age. One thing that I have learned noseing around salvage yards over the years is that just because the salvage yards interchange list says it wont fit and work isnt necessarily so. You have to do a little research on you own sometimes.

All 4L60Es from 93 to present run PWM for the 3-2 downshift solenoid. They started adding the PWM for the TCC in 1994 on some models and made it across the board in 1995. They made changes to the valve body in 1996 for the 3-2 downshift(they simplified it less parts in the valve body). But that shouldnt pose a problem from the computer standpoint the trannies are dumb they only do what the PCM tells it to do. Any 4L60E from 95 up that is a 2 wheel drive and came behind the old style small block should work all you would have to do is bolt on the correct tailshaft .(Although they wont have the better shifting pieces like the F and Y body trannies) The later trannies look a little different the the older ones but fitment should be the same. Anybody else have any input jump on in!
