Well, it could, but that would be if the tranny was creating a strain on the engine, causeing it to work harder, raising the temp. Whats your case?

Most definitely yes, if you are using the stock trans fluid cooler. The engine coolant would pass through the radiator, get cooled, then on its way out, then get heated back up again by the hot trans fluid, so the engine would never get actual cooled coolant.

I completly agree. When my tranny was going up, it would cause my temp gauge to get close to the red line, and would stay in one gear. I prolonged the life a few months w/ a tranny oil cooler, but by that time the oil was nice and brown (even two days after a fluid and filter change.) It stopped working altogether not long after that . . . .

Depends on what you mean by a "bad" tranny. Yes, a slipping tranny could cause the engine to run hotter. Also, I've had this happen before... The torque converter can go bad, letting garbage into the tranny fluid, which gets pumped into the trans cooler part of the stock radiator. This can plug up this part of the radiator, and thus cause the engine to run hotter. This exact thing happened to car I had that the torque converter went out in.

thanks alot guys for the response. this is what i thought was probably happening but wanted to verify.

i dont know a lot about transmissions but it feels like its slipping. it'll rev higher than usual then kinda like feels like it finally slips into gear. i used to never get over 3000 rpm, even if i tried to, flooring it, freeway, whatever. now it goes over no problem.

when it seems to work great, my engine temp was nice and low, around prob 180 or the first quarter mark on the guage. since i began noticing poor tranny performance, the temp has gone up to 220. it stays there, presumably because of the fan.

oh also i had my oil changed the other day (ok im lazy) and the guy showed me the tranny fluid and he said its supposed to be bright red and it was darker. doh.

so, should i take it to a tranny place to diagnose the exact problem? again, i have little experience.

if i drive like this, am i really hurting the engine?

Actually it's supposed to stay around the temperature of your thermostat.
