ECM/TCC/T-5 to auto/Is TCC needed?
ECM/TCC/T-5 to auto/Is TCC needed?
My car was a T5 stick factory, but it was converted to a 700R4. I don't think the ECM or wiring harness were changed, but unsure as I bought the car the way it is. It runs pretty good, and the transmission seems to shift good. I was under the car and saw a connector with the wires cut, and after researching the boards, I think this is the wiring for TCC.
Do I need this hooked up, or will the car be OK without it? Is a 5spd ECM and an auto ECM the same (same wiring outputs, etc)? Can I find an auto harness and throw it in and cure the problem, or would I need a new PROM in my ECM/or swap my ECM for an auto ECM? I also saw a few other connectors under the car that aren't hooked up, but I don't know what they do, should I try to ID them and get them hooked up too?
Thanks for any help/advice, also, what could I pick up a used T5 for, as I still have a lot of the 5spd accesssories, like the shifter, cluch pedal assy, fluid reservoir under the hood, etc.
Thanks again, and sorry for long post.

I think that the worst thing you could see here is worse gas mileage. Without it hooked up it will result in higher RPMs at highway speeds. As for the difference in ECMs... I dunno. The chip however is most certainly different.
Thanks guys, any other people feel free to put in an opinion.
Thanks again, and by the way, can I wire the TCC to work automatically as in an auto car if I wire it directly to the ECM I have, or would I need an automatic PROM for it to work?

you will need to have a PROM from an auto that is programmed to signal the TCC, the stock PROM in the manual was not programmed to do it.

Yes you need a TCC lock-up, don't change your mind and skip it. Without it the transmission will end up burning up the fluid and thus the tranny.
What the.....?!!! Note to self: PYHO!!
