Rear Gear Help Please!!!

I just bought a Zexel-Torsen posi w/3.42 gears off of eBay out of a 2002 Z28 with only 4K miles:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1875539519

Here is the problem. Take a look at the following pictures:

The problem is that one of the small teeth that are circled is broken. Half of one of the teeth is missing, about the same that is colored red.

Is this going to be a problem? I already left good feedback so I might be screwed if I try and claim that it was there when I got it.

Is the unit still useable?

Good luck, not the best buy off e-bay. I would get in touch with the seller and ask why the defect was NOT NOTED??

that little gear is for a speed sensor for the anti-lock brake system on the donor car, if your putting it in 3'rd gen then it won't matter, the gear won't affect anything. I would check the whole setup for metal contamination before installing it.

As 1986redbird stated,

just ensure that no metal lingered in the Torsen, and let it rip.

Does that ABS reluctor look removable? (I have yet to disassemble a 4G axle, so I myself cannot say for sure.)

If the bearings really look like 4000 milers after you clean it all up, that could be a nice deal, especially if you figure $100 for a T/O Torsen from SLP + ? for a used R&P + bearings/shims + shipping for some/all of it can add up to much more. Plus the carrier bearings are "preassembled to the carrier"

Besta luck, peace

Cool so if it's for ABS I don't even need to worry about it. I'll check and see if I can remove it all together.

Yes it looks VERY good, looks brand new. I fell it was definantly worth the $$. I checked it out and there is no oil on the broken tooth at all and it is clean and fresh and jusding by the way it was packed I assume the box was dropped and that broke it but I'll still have it all checked out just in case.

Thanks guys!

Alex

Good rule of thumb:

If you don't have the chip in your hand, go over the new-to-you parts with some cleaner. Peace of mind costs a few minutes to gain but is priceless in the end.

Peace,

Did you back out of this auction? It looks like this has re-appeared.

Well mine is in my garage with only 4K miles on it. That one has 32K! I'm glad I got the lower milage one, and yes I was able to just remove that entire ABS sensor ring gear...

I still think you paid too much, Unless those are the gears you wanted..

For 99.00 you coulda had a new one..

did you need to reshim your pinion or were you lucky enough to have a housing of the same tolerances?

Of course it was the exact posi and gears I wanted, other wise I would have bought a new carrier from SLP for $99 and new gears for $175 from ThunderRacing.com

Yes, my housing was a perfet fit. I used the Raytech Deluxe install kit though so I knew I have new and perfect everything....
