replacing rear wheel bearings tomorrow..info needed
ok i have a 10 bolt 373 posi and im replacing my rear wheel bearings tomorrow.. i went to the auto parts store to get wheel bearings and they only had 2 different kinds 1 of each so i got em.. one is a little different then the other one.. they are both the same size but one has a second metal ring between the rollers and the other doesnt.. is this ok or do i need to get 2 of the same ones and which one is right? also as far as gear lube i was thinking moble 1 synthetic what weight should i get? is this a good gear oil? i am aware that i need posi additive.. i also bought new oil seals.. is there anything else i should get before i tear into it?

You need a piece of electrical conduit about 6' long, ¾" or 1" is perfect. Take out both axles, stick it through the tubes, bonk the bearings right out.
Put the seals in with about a 6" piece of 2x4, by carefully laying them against their bore and holding the 2x4 against them, and give them one extreme whack with a BFH. DO NOT try to tap them in around the edge, they will leak every time that way.

I always used the slide hammer myself, call it preference. The old bearing will be destroyed when it comes out. As far as gear lube, I use 90 wt. Check your axles to make sure there are no ridges where they will sit on the seal, if you have ridges, you need to sleeve them beforehand or your new seals will leak. Most parts stores sell sleeving kits and they are easy to install.

No you don't have to remove the carrier.... you have to have the cross pin out anyway, at that point, the piece of conduit simply occupies the volume vacated by the axles... too easy.
I hate work.
I agree about the lube, use 75W-90 or 80W-90, basically the thin stuff (NOT85W-140). Also about the axles; if you can feel ANY ridge AT ALL where the bearings ride on them, they are garbage, and you should either use the "repair" bearing thing, or get other axles; as they will surely leak and/or wipe out new bearings.

ah i see what ur sayin.. makes sense i guess it would work.. i already have the right tools 2 do it tho so i'll just use em.. good point about the axles i didnt even think about em.. i hope they arnt funked up cause i got the regular bearings..they have regular bearings on em right now and dont leak so i just assumed they would be ok but im not too literate on this topic so i may be wrong in my assumption

Slide hammer works for me. If the axle is chewed up any, just install some repair bearings. They change where the bearing rides on the axle to a new(good) spot. They also have a built in seal. They install just like a normal bearing. Mine has been running on a pair of them for 6 years now.
