Big problem with rear-end. Need help.

Since I had my car, I went through 2 rear ends and I am now on my third. They kept singing and humming until they would pop, and then I would need a new rear. Now, the rear-end starts to hum especially in first gear, then around 35-45 miles per hour, and not so loud later on but myabe cuz of my exhaust drowning out the sound. I dont have money for another rear-end and really need your help on what the problem could be. I don't have an insabely powerful car that would bust a stock rear. Thank you very much.

couple things... did the original factory set of gears break on you, or was it an aftermarket set that first broke? If it was the original, then I would inspect the rear for something out of the ordinary. The new gears, are they the proper carrier? Are they aligned/shimmed properly?

The thing is, I went through 2 rear-ends, not just gears. SO would it be the rears themselves or another drivetrain problem causing the rears to break? The two other rears were factory stock, and I got this one with the 3.73s in it already.

I would be looking at your Driving Technics if your breaking rears like you said.

Would a ring and pinon gear installation kit from Richmond Gears (the MEGA KIT pasted below) basically contain the same parts that would be needed for a rear-end rebuild? It seems like it needs all the stuff I need. Just asking to make sure.

From Richmond- "If you are doing an axle overhaul or replacing a ring & pinion set, these kits are a must. Available in either the basic 1/2 kit or as a complete set. The 1/2 kit includes pinion shims, crush sleeve, pinion seel and cover gasket. The complete set contains everything in the basic kit plus thread locker, gasket sealer, marking compound and bearings to complete a ring and pinion installation. The Mega Kit includes the complete kit plus axle bearings and seals."

What say you? Thanks again.

Yes, it is basically all the "soft parts" you need to rebuild a rear. About all you need besides that, is some fluid. The same kit, functionally, is available from many sources; Ratech, Reider, etc.
