3.73 question

What kind of top end would i be looking at with a set of 3.73 gears? I have the car in the sig with a 700R4 tranny. I know my car now with the 2.77 can burry the speedo (140mph) no problem. I kind of wanted to be able to get up to 140mph with the 3.73's but i dont think this would be possible?

have you looked into 3.42 gears?

i been thinking of moving on up to them myself from my 3.23's, when running some searches i found out that most chose 3.42's that have a 700r4 and tpi. i would assume you would have to be in very high rpms to get to ur top speed with 3.73's.

The reason I was saying 3.73 is because i do a lot of stoplight racing and have been wanting to take it to the track. The 3.73 rearend is something i could get a really good deal on so im kinda confused on what to do. I dont want to suffer to bad in milage and top end but i want better low end. Then the whole price thing comes into play.

I have a 84 t/a, 373/700r4, tops at around 130 in drive, wont stay in o/d for it's true top speed, 60-65 in o/d = approx. 2300rpm with 235-60r15's

I also have a 82 trans am with 373's and a 5spd, very quik acceleration

Jproz, try the B&M 4-3 kickdown kit, that'll keep you in OD for high speed cruising. I have it, and I love it... best thing I ever put into my 700r4. Find info about it from http://www.bmracing.com - all you need to do is drop the pan to change the TV sleeve out.

My buddies 86 Z28 burys the speedo easily with his 3.73 gears.
Car isn't stock though, 355 with Dart heads and 3" exhaust. no headers yet.

Hey Zepher, dumb question but do you by any chance know what type of milage he's getting? My car isn't exactly stock either and i will have a bunch more mods in the future.

Around 16-22mpg. modded TPI 350's seem to get poor milage when compared to modded LT1's. I've got friends with 400+ LT1's getting 25+mpg on the highway.

Just to know my car is cabable as is to do at least 140mph. I think it would look funny when your car tops out at like 115 when the speedo goes to 140.
