differential gasket
i prefer the skip the rubber gasket in a tube and use the paper one. i think either would work equally well. if you're wanting a reuable type of gasket you can make one from rubber. try mc master-carr 330-995-5500

The RTV does seal better, not that paper doesn't seal adequately though; but RTV is less trouble than making a store run just for a piece of paper. It's really just a matter of laziness.
rb, don't know why but i've never quite got on to all this new stuff that's come out for cars in the last 30 or 40 years. i don't prefer RTV for anything over a gasket. and i do know it works as good or even better.

i saw the RTV stuff works better on the diff. gasket then the paper one does. my friend had (just junked the car) 87 gta and he had the gear fluid replaced in his car and ordered the 9 bolt diff gasket for $9 and after a while it started leaking. i replaced my fluid and then had it replaced again once i had my posi installed and well i used the RTV stuff and still sealed tight , no leaks.

RTV is fine, actually better then a crappy gasket that will leak without sealer anyway.
Us new school ergh "nEw Skewlers" use Ultra Grey RTV, stronger seal and dries quicker. .

Designed for high torque applications (predominantly Japanese designs) requiring a unique RTV gasket. Exceeds manufacturers’ performance requirements. Low odor, non-corrosive. Outstanding oil resistance. Guaranteed not to leak. Temperature range -75°F to 625°F intermittent; resists auto and shop fluids and vibration.
Suggested Applications:
Valve covers, oil pans, intake manifold end seals, timing covers, water pumps, thermostat housings.
i use ultracopper, don't think there's anything better. i've even used it for head gaskets, instead of head gaskets not with a gasket, on air cooled engines.

I was told at work that only companies could
Now, if you see it on the Internet though, it has to be true. Right?

So have you actually checked the web site yet and order stuff just like the rest of us, or are you just going to continue to be the young gullible apprentice type?

i've ordered from mc master on more than one occasion and had it shipped to my house. there is a chance they got confused and thought ed ellison was a fortune 500 companey. granger is a bit harder to buy from, i had to tell them it was for big ed's garage and a cash sale.

Well sorry if I belive my boss that has 2 masters, one in mechanical and one in electrical engineering over you
And this makes what you got told at work correct somehow?
And if they told you the Earth was flat at work, that would make it so too?
Checked the web site yet, young Grasshopper?

I think what we need here is some thread sealer. This one seems to be leaking...
Too bad we can't purchase quantities of thread sealant through McMaster, G-Mart, J&L, Johnstone, MSC Supply, Fastenal, Service Supply, or other places that won't seel to anyone but Rockwell and Halliburton.... They must think I'm a division of GM or something.
Gawd, make this go away! My paltry undergraduate degrees simply aren't cutting it in this forum any more, and I feel like a stump.

guess big al found out that anyone can order from mc master and now he's questioning what 2 master degrees are good for if the degree holder doesn't know anything, or at least doesn't know everything

Sure seems that way. Might try some red Loctite.
