early fourth gear shift

When my car is warmed up, and i'm going slow in traffic, my car will shift into fourth (700-R4) at like 29 mph and won't come out of fourth unless i push the gas pedal like halfway down. If i try to give it gas, it seems to clunk into fourth, and not downshift. But, when it's cold, and i'm going slow in traffic, it acts normal. what could this be?

Make sure the TV cable is adjusted correctly. It should be tight at WOT. If this makes it shift to late at light throttle openings, loosen it a click or two. Try this to see what happens.

yeah, i've tried doing that before, but it didn't help any. I just don't get why it shifts normal when it's cold, but after the car warms up, it shifts into fourth way too low. could this problem have something to do with the torque converter, or is my tranny just going out? I've got like 174,000 miles on my car, so maybe it's just getting old
