Painting a T5?
I was wondering if anyone has painted their tranny, as I was thinking about it while I save up the $ to have it put in (10 degrees and snowy here... I'm not doing it!)
It's pretty corroded and greasy... so what should I do to clean it off and prep it for paint?
What kind of paint might I use... and how many coats?
Thanks!

I cleaned mine up with castrol super clean then I put scotch bright pads on a buffer wheel and buffed off the oxidaton then I powder coated mine. If painting, do the same, prime then paint.

Sweet.
Did you take out the internals before coating and baking or did you leave it together?
If my tranny looked like that, it'd be put in the living room. Looks like a work of art.

Looks very nice but you go to all the trouble of powder coating it and then it gets dirty. Black paint is what I use, take the tranny to the car wash blast the crap out of it then paint it to what ever color you want.

When I rebuilt my T56 I bead blasted the exterior of all the casing parts and then sealed them with a very high quality clear. If it gets dirty or greasy I just hose it down with soem gunk and water and it shines like new again.
