The v6 crossmember should work just fine (it did on my conversion, the transmission ends up in the same place as with the v6)... How is it not lining up?? is it too far back or something?? The only difference between some of the v6 crossmembers and the v8 crossmember is the v6 one has a center section with extra rubber bushings... Everything lines up the same though...

Loosen all the bolts that hold the trans to the mount, so that the mount can wiggle around a bit. Then start all the other hardware, and tighten it all back down.
It deforms itself to the stresses the car puts on it. It will re-deform once you get everything back together.

Don't drill holes, don't sodomize anything. Just do what I said and it will go right in.
The kind of crossmember you have came in some V8s too. Here's the one out of my 83 HO car. Incidentally, the 2 outer slots for the trans mount, aren't stock... I put those there so I could use the early-model 2-bolt-up style mount instead of the 1-stud-down style.
You have all the right parts, just make sure they are all turned the right way, and follow the instructions.

You need to get a bolt removal kit, which can be found at most any part stores. You basiclly drill a hole in the center of the broken bolt, and the kit provides a removal tool that looks like a reemer, or a countersink which turns the bolt out.
