Just got a rear from a 96 Z28......I noticed there is some type of sensor with a 2 wire lead coming off of it....I dont think my current one has this. What is it for?

 

speed sensor..... (For the ABS)

 

but It didnt come with ABS brakes

 

the sensor is right on top of the pumpkin......the calipers and all that look like the ones on my current rear.

 

It's for ABS. Believe it. There'a a "tone ring" pressed onto the carrier (looks alot like the ring gear on a flywheel actually), and that sensor provides a signal based on how fast that "tone ring" is spinning.

 

yes I saw that ring. So shouldnt there be some electrical sensor or something on the calipers or something? Or atleast SOMETHING different. Do I just leave this sensor unplugged?

 

No there is nothing at the wheels. That particular setup just measures the carrier speed, which is the average of the 2 rear wheels; known as the "3 sensor" system.

Yes, just leave it unplugged. You have nothing to plug it into anyway if your car is a thirdgen. If it bothers you just sticking our there you might be able to find a plug or something that's the same thread.

 

Unless you want to be the first (I think) to get ABS into a thirdgen

 

Don't know why you would want ABS, if your a competant driver you don't need it.

 

Yes it did. I think all 4th gens did.

If it would have had traction assist, it would have a sensor at each end of the axle housing.
