clicking sound in 700r4

I had my 1992 Z28 in the shop recently and the certified tech told that the clicking noise was coming from the 700r4 transmission. I hear it in PARK when all of the other accessories are off. I can here it from the drivers seat but not from outside the car. I read a post and it mentioned something about a low pressure condition in the front pump. Could that be the noise I'm hearing. Thanks

Just one click when you put the lever in park or a series of clicks?

A constant clicking sound . It sounds like lifter clicking, but it is not.

Cracked Flywheel!

The post u read about a low pressure in the pump was the thread I started. I was hearing a ticking sound inside the car but not outside . . . upon further inspection I found out that the flywheel was cracked ALL THE WAY AROUND the crank. I have never seen that before! lol! But since im tearing the car apart I haven't fixed it nor do I care to since im not driving it.

Thanks HaroGt14. I was hoping it was a small problem, but that sounds serious. I'll have to get it repaired because the noise really irritates me.

Check the tc bolts. Those sometimes loosen up. Just get under the car, pull the dust cover and check to make sure theyre all tight and torqued to spec.

If it is a buzzing noise in park or neutral it is probalby the trans pressure regulator. My 1983 700r4 has done it for years. Nice little buz when you listen to it. There is a GM tech bulletin that I read that said that is what it is. Just haven't ever felt the need to put the revised valve in to eliminate the buzz.

I'm not saying it couldn't be your flexplate just saying if its not the flexplate it could be this. Check the flexplate ASAP unless you like chunks of metal flying into your car with you.

The flexplate would make noise in park, neutral, and in drive/reverse at a stop or low road speeds.

Re: clicking sound in 700r4

Im having the same problem on my 92 Caprice Classic before/after my own rebuild with a couple upgraded parts, I believe the problem comes from one or a couple of things; tv cable, the t.v. assembly attached the valvebody, or check *****.

The reason I feel they are related to the parts is because i manually manipulated the tv cable position slightly on my 305tbi and the clicking stopped-that made me think tv cable but, the cable is connected to the throtle valve plunger arm and if the spring behind the plunger is weak the valve wont seat properly at the resting position.

During my rebuild i did not buy the checkball seat fix for the valvebody separator plate. That is the only thing i could think had to do something with rattling in the transmission. Hence my reasoning behind a checkball causing the rattling clicking sound.

I have a pan leak so i am just going to pull the pan and do the cb seat fix and tv rebuild along with gasket ...... and maybe a NoyoYo shift kit.

Jus my thoughts
