posi in an open rear?
Can i just go out and buy an open 3.42 rear from a V-6 camaro and then get an SLP posi for the extra $100? I have heard thr 89 has the 2 different spline counts in the rears is there any truth to this? Also it is a 10 bolt.

The factory does not use 2 series carriers and the "special" 3 series gears for 2 series carriers to get 3 series rears. Virtually any 6-cyl car you find in a junkyard will still have the factory rear in it, and if it has a 3 series gear, it's therefore almost certain that any 3 series gears you find in one of those will be for a 3 series carrier.
So, bottom line, you have better than a 99% chance of success by going to the yard and getting a rear out of a 90-92 6-cyl 5-speed car, and getting the SLP posi if they still have any, and putting it in. Of course you'll still have drum brakes; but if that doesn't matter to you, then it's a good cheap way to at least get gears and a posi.

so, in other words, i can go to the junk yard or buy one off of thirdgen.org and 99 out of 100 will have the 3 series carrier that i can bolt the slp posi in?

As long as it's a 90-92 and from a 6-cyl. If it's 89 back, then it will not have 28-spline axles; and if it's from a V8, it most likely won't have good gears in it.
