3rd gen wheels on 4th gen rear

i'm planning to swap my 3rd gen rear out for a 4th gen rear because my 3rd gen rear is crapping out, so my question is can i just put my 3rd gen wheels on the 4th gen rear without a problem or would i need wheel spacers?

You only need spacers when going with 4th gen wheels on a 3rd gen rear. 3rd gen wheels on a 4th gen rear stick out like pasky described.

if your panhard bar is centered on your car, the tires come right TO the lip.. not beyond, but to it.

if the bar is off at all, you may have to roll a lip on one side or the other...

he's right, except that when i put my my wheels on, the tires never really came close to scrubbing. they just stick out. it's an appearance thing, not fitment. although, i would say it's a good time to think about some custom wheels. get em cut for a 3rd gen front offset, and a 4th gen rear offset. you'll wind up with like a 0mm offset rear, and like a -37mm in the front, but I'm not positive on those measurements. (no pun intended) the cool thing is, you can go significantly wider with your rears.... 305's, anyone??

I thought you could... but I KNEW you could put 305's on. I'd like to see if it's possible to stuff 345's on the back.... damn that'd be huge, though.

nope.

at that point, even with a flared and rolled fender, you would have to SERIOUSLY modify the inner fenderwell.

same size as the biggest you can fit with a 3rdgen wheel.

the size of the wheel well isnt changing.. only the offeset needed to keep the tire centered.

largest that can be wedged in there with only minor tweeking is a 315 series tire.... that would be on a 11" wide rim.

sorta. if you don't care about centering, I honestly think you could go bigger, provided you're using low profile tires. a 17x11 or 17x12 would be the answer.

I wyould say a 315/40/17 would be the biggest you need anyway. much bigger, and you're talking drag slick territory.

that fits in the wheel well with minor work.. mostly you just tap one bump on the inner fenderwall, and/or possibly roll the lip. depending on your exact offset.

so it's not much of a problem.... good to know. I'm going with some WS6 wheels, or a custom set (haven't found what i like yet). who makes the best adapters for the front? transdapt seems to be cheap quality, but skulte looks like he has good stuff. what about f-body motorsports?

factory? i only know of ZR1s... other then that, you're looking at aftermarket rims. and ofcourse aftermarket means any offset you need.

theres a bunch of used 4thgen aftermarket rims out there if you look too..

sure. you can use bolt on spacers to make up for any diffs. so you can run real ZR1s, or knockoffs... they make some in 3rdgen offset, but they're really narrow... kinda stupid really, the whole point of ZR1s was that they are wide.....
