9 bolt disk onto 10 bolt drum
any idea if it would be posible to take the disk brakes off of a 9-bolt rear end and swap them with the drums on a 10-bolt?
edit: has anyone done this?

So a 9-bolt can handle more hp/tq than a 10 bolt?
would it be cheaper just to build up the 9-bolt instead of building the 10 bolt?

The 9-bolt can take more than a 10-bolt. Unfortunately, there is nothing cheap about 9-bolt parts. There is a guy that is trashing 9-bolts and claims that the 10-bolt is better, but there isn't a lot of agreement with that.
I'm going to replace my 10- with a 9-bolt in the near future. (Dusts off flame suit, pulls on Nomex underwear).

The 9 bolt is stronger than the 10 bolt but apparently the posi unit wears badly and takes out the bearings inside. Im approaching 260 000kms on my original 9 bolt rear axle though and it has no trouble leaving 2 big black patches behind the car

im on a budget and personally i believe it would be cheaper 2 build up the 10 bolt rather than buying a 1500 dollar 12 bolt or 9inch...or ami stoopid?
I do'nt thin yur stoopid, but it's gonna get real ekspensiv if u have to keep rebilding rears becuz of all that pwr!
Ther is a teknical artikl on beefing up the 10-bolt that you mite want 2 review.

i have read the article and plan on using many of the suggested "beefing up" methods...i would assume that would be fine for my application but i would like the luxury of 4 wheel disks
You can have 4-wheel discs with either the 9-bolt or the 10-bolt. I have the iron Delco-Moraines (which are below terrible) on my 10-bolt. I'm going to lose those in favor of the PBRs (preferable) on a 9-bolt.
I doubt that the suggested mods in the tech article will be able to stand up to the amount of power that you will be applying for very long. Just my .02 worth.
