switching gears from limited slip 3.08 to 3.73 or bigger posi

i have acess to some rear ends. i would like to swap out my old 3.08 limited slip gears to some 3.73 or 4.11 posi gears. would i have to swap out the whole rear end? i was told i could just swap out the pumpkin. any help?

With the 10 bolt, the pumpkin isn't removable.

Since you already have a limited slip/3 series carrier, you can swap to the 3.73's or 4.11's without changing the carrier out.

If you do choose to replace the carrier in addition to the gears, make sure you get the right spline count for the axles. Two were available for the thirdgens, I believe 87 was the crossover year.

i think you're confused on a point or two. gears have nothing to do with posi or open. all you need to do is install the gears you want. if you want posi then you'd need a posi carrier.

You can't use the posi from the 3.08, because its a series 2. The crossover year for 26 to 28 spline axles is 1989. So you probably want a series 3 posi with 28 spline count to go with those 3.73 or 4.11 gears.

you can use the series 2 carrier with the correcr gears, in any ratio you want. you don't need to change carreir just because of the series. richmond makes gears that will work for you.
