neutral/park safety switch
I am trying to figure out why I can't turn over the engine from the key in my camaro, its got a 700r4 trans.! Does the cable coming from the transmission need to be connected to the carburator? Or is there a neutral safety switch that needs to be connected somewhere???

The TV cable on the transmission needs to be connected to the throttle linkage on the carb, or you will most likely destroy the transmission within a few miles. The park/neutral safety switch is located on the shifter.

OK, I know the cable from the tranny needs to be attached to the carb linkage but I have yet to hook up the gas line. I just wanted to make sure I have attached everything electrically since I am putting a wire harness from an 82 camaro into an 84 camaro.
My problem is that when I shift it into park or neutral and turn the key it doesn't turn over but when I hotwire it the starter turns the engine, help!

I've opened the center compartment under the shifter and found the plug attached to the shifter switch. There are (2) 10 gauge wires, purple and grn/wht (showing 0 volts whether I turn the key or not) and (4) 14 gauge wires, green, blue, orange, blk/wht.
The blue wire has a constant 12v and the blk/wht has a constant 10v again whether I turn the key or not, the smaller gauge green and orange wires have no power to them key on or off. Therefore it is my assumption that since there is a lack of juice or no change of that juice going to the switch whether the key is on or off, the problem must exist before the shifter. Does anyone concur?

According to my schematics for the 82 camaro, this is what you should have and what they do.
A= black/white (ground)
B= orange/black (signal to ECM)
C= dark blue (hot wire from turn-b/u fuse)
D= light green (wire to back-up lights)
E= purple (wire to terminal "S" on starter solenoid)
F= yellow (wire from ignition switch)
Pin "F" is where it varies here, you have a green/white wire and the schematic shows a yellow wire. Does your green/white wire come off the ignition switch?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner my wife made go fishing, damn her!? Hee hee. Anyway I couldn't tell if the green/wht wire travels to the ignition switch or not, after the shift switch it becomes buried deep into the dash. But if the black/wht wire is supposed to be ground and I receive a constant 10v from it does that not mean something shorting to ground?

You should be able to hardwire, or just at least connect temp. the purple and darker green wires together. One should come from the ignition switch in the column (green) and one should go to the starter (purple)

I kinda thought thats what it meant, but was afraid to act on my intuition (it sometimes gets me in trouble). Anyway, since I've got voltage going to ground that isn't good so I think I'll start troubleshooting from there! Hey, thanks again for all your help!

Anybody know where I can get a wire harness for an 84 camaro?
The one I got comes from an 82 and its got some differences.
I can try the local Junk Dealers but they're too inconsistant.
