Unbolting tranny from engine

I bought a old 84 to learn with for 250 bucks. The only thing wrong with it is a spun bearing.

So, i'm in the process of removing the engine, and I got to the tranny. Then I removed the piece that reveals the converter and starter.

Now i'm just at a loss for what to do next. How do I get all the bolts out?

I looked in the chiltons book, but they don't explain the procedure very well. Links, or manual explanation would be great!

Thanks, guys.

Get a Haynes manual. They explain stuff simpler than Chiltons. I use Chiltons for the wiring diagrams and the Haynes for when I want to actually fix stuff. Not bad for a British company.

Jim.

get out some sockets, a bunch of extensions, and a swivel end. make sure to take the converter bolts out as well. just be patient and try not to yell too loud when the darn swivel doesn't cooperate and you bust you knuckels on the tranny pan.

How many bolts should there be? I can only see 3, there has to be more.

just did this not hard. disconnect drive shaft. put jack under tranny oil pan. unbolt exhaust hanger and torsion bar mount. put piece of wood between chassy and top of torsion bar because it will slam bottom of car. remove cross member. i removed my distributer so i could get to top tranny bolts with one of those new ratchet combo wrenches. worked great. the bottom bolts with socket. yes converter has only 3 bolts. also make sure you disconnect tv cable. one other trick is to duct tape a zip lock bag to end of tranny where drive shaft came out of so fluid doesnt go every where.

Can I just simply unbolt just the engine from the transmission, or must I disconnect the tranny and remove the whole works?

Or, would it be even easier just to pull the engine and tranny out together?

Yup, remove the hood, driveshaft, radiator, and take all the connections off the engine and tranny like hoses and lines and wires, etc. Then undo the mounts, support the tranny and pull both out from the hood while watching out for the distributor or remove it first.
