what's really needed in a 700r4 build-up?

what all should i upgrade on my 700r4- besides a shift kit, servo, and converter. i am pretty sure i am going to use a full manual valve body. but what else on the inside of the tranny needs to be replaced? assuming the engine is 388 cubes and around 500hp and no nitrous?

You might look at some of their offerings for the 700R4... Just so you can learn what's in there...

What year 700R4 are you starting with?

i was looking at the kits that the probuilt guy has- seems like a pretty good deal. i have never gotten into a tranny before. is it something that i could do myself if i went out and bought some sort of book? i built my engine and rear end just fine- but i am not sure i can do a tranny? are there any special tools i would need?

I bought Paul Zank's 700R4 video - http://www.technicalvideos.com/video...smission.phtml

$30 + shipping. I'm also gonna buy a book on the 700.

The ATSG rebuild books are pretty good, about $17.50 each.

i think i may do some more research and buy one of those books/video's- i don't really wanna spend another grand having the tranny put together- i am already stretching my budget w/o even getting into the tranny- but after reading- i dont know how long a stock rebuilt tranny (like i have)- will last a very long time with the engine i have

to make a bulletproof 700r4, go to tci. get the 5 pinion carrier, stronger sunshell, heavy duty band, heavy duty clutches and 9 clutch third gear clutch pack. they also make a servo kit with heavier springs for the second and fourth gear apply piston. also you'll need to get the B&M transpack.

I am wanting to build up my 700-R4 for more power handling as well, but I find myself working with a smaller budget. So basically I was looking at the Trans-Go shift kit (heard it was far better than the B&M kit) and a billet servo from TCI. Along with of course the fluid and filter change. The only problem is, is that the Transmission has 115,000 miles on it and as far as I know, has never had a fluid or filter change. Now, the fluid is NOT burnt looking or smelling, but still. Can I do these modifications without damaging the Trans?

Thanks,
Max

I'm in the same boat as myvmax1. Except my 700R4 has about 200km on it. Shifts fine as I have driven my car a few times since I bought it but with this weather it's hard to get it out there and see what could be swapped out or fixed. I was thinking about the Trans-Go kit. How hard would it be to install myself? How much are corvette servo's and where can I get one? With a mild budget, what would you guys also suggest me getting? I might be throwing a 355cu. 390+Hp motor in there and don't want my tranny to be spitting pieces...

the amount of mileage you have on your tranny is not going to be a problem as long as it is in good working order. the transgo kit is a bit more involved then the B&M kit. i would not advise doing either yourself unless you are 100% sure of what you are doing. Also there is a snap ring for i believe the second gear accumulator that is very tricky to remove.
