Transmission, Extremely HIGH RPMS
So me and my girlfriend where on the (110) N heading to Disneyland, in Anehiem. As soon as I got on the ramp to the 110 N and stepped on the gas, and hit 35 mph my transmission gave out on me and would not go over 2nd gear to 3rd and would make the RPMS really reall fawking high and you could hear the transmission making a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggrrrrrr sound like I was florring it in nuetral, so me and her quickly took the nearest exit and exited out into SUPER KMART to buy Quaker state ATF DEXRON III fluid for my transmission. I checked the transmission fluid and found the transmission rod meter to be very hot and there were no fluids in the transmission so I went inside K-MART and bought 4 Quaker state ATF DEXRON III bottles, and filled it with every drop in the bottle. we then took off and back into the freeway thinking that would of corrected the problem, as soon as we hit the 110 N the same sound and HIGH RPMS were encountered again at 40mph with no exit in sight I then had to pull over to the far left lane into the grassy area of the freeway and called CHP to come escort me out of the freeway since my car was EXTREMELY unsafe at this point. So he was behind me with his police lights on looking like a little low speec car chase, chasing a slow camaro. We then exited the freeway and he led me to this ARCO gas station and left. I then took the streets home and kept the car under 35 mph when I got home the transmission was VERY VERY HOT and the transmission rod fluid meter was BURNING HOT It exceeded (HOT) on the rod meter so I maybe put too much ATF but it had the same problem when it didnt have ATF... So now my car wont get out of 2nd gear without EXTREMELY HIGH RPMS (35mph) WHAT IS GOING ON? Has anyone had this problem before!? Can anyone tell me as to what they think might be wrong with my transmission?? this is my only car and I need her to go to work and come home!
PLEASE HELP ME MY F-BODY BROTHERS!!!
Any comments or suggestions/THOUGHTS welcome!

I think you cooked your tranny. In case you haven't learned the lesson yet, MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS CHECK YOUR FLUIDS!
It's probably the torque converter that died first on you, but chances are, there's metal all over the tranny. Drop the pan and take a look for metal filings, if they exist, either get another transmission or have yours rebuilt.

I honestly don't remember whether that was the cost of rebuilding one or getting one out of a wrecking yard. Probably the former. A used tranny from a yard will probably cost at least $300, but you won't know the condition of it.

Ok I just paid $100.00 for it.
The total as if now is $500.00
they will rebuild it and call me if I stripped any gears.

If it still moved, chances are the converter went out and took out the front pump, Or it coulda smoked the 3-4 clutch pack. Either way shouldn't be too much broken stuff. You really can't tell till you get it apart though. I thought my 3rd 700r4 was ok until I pulled out the sun shell, and found the reaction carrier shaft peeled open like a toilet paper roll!
Good Luck

You lost the 3-4 clutch pack, and in doing so you fried the fluid by running around in 1st & 2nd gear, & then it took out the low/reverse planet & sun gear due to lack of lubrication (fluid to hot, thin & burnt). As to why you lost the 3-4 clutch pack......... It is very common on these units.

I would strongly suggest you stop beating on the car so much. They're not new anymore, haven't been for over 13 years for the newest of them all, and ragging your daily driver isn't going to make it last longer, as I hope you figured out. Stuff breaks, but it breaks faster if you beat on it and abuse it.
Still, it's your toy, so if you want to drive it into the ground, by all means, and make sure to get some good pictures of the carnage when something really breaks, so we can share the mirth.

Well, at least you learned, and that says something. Try to learn from other people's mistakes, too - you can't possibly make them all by yourself. I tried, once.
780 for a rebuild? I wouldn't complain too much...
