Adjusted TV cable, car won't crank!

Okay, so i've searched my keester off trying to find a problem identical to this, and I just can't, so i'll post about it. I have a 1986 Z28, LG4 and the 700r4. Today I was going to adjust the TV cable because I had shifting issues. I adjusted it fine and went to start it up, and I get no cranking whatsoever. I need this car working ASAP, could I have messed with the wrong cable, perhaps? Thanks in advance!

Here's a pic of what I figured to be the TV cable, and comparing it to the tech article pic, thought it was the same, but i'm always unsure of these things. Would this even be the cause as to why I can't even get the car to crank? (And before I get reamed, yeah, it has some 2nd hand hackjob done to it from some other owner, but it never prevented me from starting it until I tried adjusting it). I really need this car working as soon as possible. Please help me out. Any ideas?

That is (or was) the TV cable, it will have nothing with your ability to crank. You'll probably want to replace that with an unbutchered one.

^^^

TV cable has no connection whatsoever tot he starter or anyhting related. That cable looks like it needs to find its way to the garbage can...

Okay, so the TV cable won't cause the problem i've been having? Then what would? I haven't touched any ignition components, and this started happening right after I messed with that cable...maybe the car thinks it's in gear but it isn't...?

EDIT: If a mod sees it fit to move this thread, it's okay and I aplogize in advance for my (lack of) knowledge on this, and thanks a lot for the replies.

even if you managed to break the distributor right off if would still crank...

Couple of possibilities.

1. Starter Solenoid or starter itself
2. Wiring to solenoid or starter
3. Trans park/neutral switch

And as i have no experience with VATS and im not sure if you even have it, this might possibly be the culprit.

Probably a few dozzen more things that will cause a no crank but its a start.

I think I might've done something with the park/neutral switch, just a hunch of mine, since i've never had problems with the solenoid or starter, but I won't leave that out..where's the switch located?

On the side of the shifter under the console. Unlikely you've ever done anything with that either.

Hm, went to crank it this morning and it turned right over. I'll replace the starter and starter solenoid. Still made me late for school though. The motor has a bad piston ring in the #1, so I burn oil like there's no tomorrow.
