Can I replace an 86 700r4 with a 90 700r4?

Can I replace an 86 700r4 with a 90 700r4?

Axle/Gears: 3.23
thats a direct bolt in...both trans are exactly the same.

ok, cause i knew they changed something after 86. what was it by the way, it was like a revised something or other.

The guts of the trans were revised, but the case is the exact same and will drop in no problem.

Ok, pretty much a direct swap then. You'll need to move the speedometer gears and housing from the old one to the new one. The 90 is a better transmission than the 86.
