8 speed semi auto !!

Check out this link, they are releasing a kit that can replace the stock tailshaft of a 700r4 with an under over drive mechanism, it can be controlled electronically giving you a functional 8 forward gears. http://www.gearvendors.com/hrgm4s.html

I think they have been selling those for a while. I think these same guys have made overdrive units for th350s and th400s for years. I don't think you hear about them very much becuase they are pretty damn expensive.

On a gto website i found a little more info, with all electronics they run about 2500.00. I just saw this in the latest camaro performer and looked into it a little, didnt realize they had been around for a while.

Wow, sweet. I wanna know more about them for sure.. That would be just the thing for city driving. I hate the jump from second to third gear..

Well, I saw info on them a couple of years ago, so a while may not be that long. I had broke my T5 and was looking into autos but didint' want to give up the nice ratios the T5 had. At the time it seemed the price was closer to 3 grand. Considering that's more than my car cost, I lost interest quickly and put a WC T5 in. There is also the issue of weight. I think those things are kind of hefty and considering how much a 700r4 weighs, it could add up. And of course there are issues with cutting the drive shaft and mounting the unit.

Been decussed before... we all agreed for the most part it would be far to much work to the tq arm for clearancing.

I wouldn't want to hack up the floorboards to fit it.

I havent researched this much but they had one installed in the camaro performer magazine and it didn't look like it was a whole lot of extra weight. It also looked like a fairly simple install.

If there design is the same as in the past, they aren't tapered like a regular tailhousing. They have a enlarged square shape for the internals and that was area for concern with clearancing.

Anyways here was some of the older posts:

Those Gear Vendor units are pretty kick ***. My dad has got one on his truck for towing. And I have seen a number of cars out on the salt flats using them, plus some brackett racers swear by them.

I know for a fact that Camaro Performers magazine is going to do a Gear Vendors install story on a 3rd gen Camaro.
