Which rearend will work with a 305 TBI?

I'm looking to upgrade my rearend to a posi trac/disc brakes rearend. I wanna stay used, like something from a 87-92 Z28. But I was wondering, anybody know if the rearend out of either 4th gens will bolt up? I plan on lowering it and upgrading the brakes...So why not put in a new rear...

if you were going to get a better rear end then i would get the 4th gen rear. Yes it bolts right up, the 4th gen rear sticks out 2 inches more on both sides. Your rims are going to stick out more then it is now. I was going to keep my 89 rear end but it was going to cost well over 1G to make it posi/disk and better gear ratio.

Also do a search, there is tons of information out there. Good luck

Very similar but not the same. The LT1 rears are a touch wider (less than .5" IIRC") and the LS1 rears had better brakes. Either will work fine but as mentioned above you will have to live with your wheels sticking out. Either that or get new wheels with the rears having 4th gen backspacing. The emergrency brake is not direct hook up as well. A few more searches will tell you what you need to do there.

Im not sure about putting LS1 brakes on a 3rd gen z28 rear. You would just have to look around to see what the deal with that. I have not yet put mine in but i wouldnt have gotten it if i didnt know some good info on the 4th gen rear. Listen to Shifty he knows he's stuff for sure.

Look in the brake board for "LS1 brake swap". There are tons of threads that will help you out.
