Borg Warner 4 speeds

Came across a BW 4 speed out of a 3rd gen camaro (assume 82), I can get it for $100. Are these at all strong?? any specs on them like gearing?? Also I have all of the hydraulic stuff to put a t5 in my ride, will it work on this 4 speed instead??

what? where do you get your info?

My '82 has the stock BW super T-10 in it. Air adam has a T-10 in his as well.

Yes, these are pretty damn strong. Double check, BW had reverse in top left, saginaw had it bottom left, BW had an aluminum case, (check with magnet).

the BW mechanical linkage is a good thing, i'd rather have it over hydraulic myself.

You can check the ratios online, do a search on a BW super T-10. latest revision.

Not all... actually, not even most... only about 1/3 or 1/4 of the V8 cars with a 4-spd got the T-10. Most got the Saginaw box.

this is a BW for sure. Anyone have any experience with hydraulic setup on one of these?? I was thinking I could maybe redrill my t5 BH to fit the t10 ( we used to do this on jeeps to go from t5 to t176)

They were a bit stingy with the B/W in 82.

All the ones we saw while working at the dealer 1982-83 were aluminum case T-10's. The 4 & 6cyl had the iron case Saginaws in them.

The BW T-10s used behind Chebbie small blocks from late 70s to 1982 were the weakest of the T-10's. There was actually a TSB/Recall because the aluminum bearing mid-plate was stretching. The syncros seem to fail early on some of them too.

First gear is 3.42 granny gear to get the anemic 305 moving the car. Its basically like driving a U-Haul truck.

Its still probably stronger than a T5 though ....

Unless im stopped on a steep hill I always start off in 2nd gear.

Also a U-Haul truck will never be as much fun to drive
