700r4 question

i cant shift into overdrive. im not sure if i burned it out or if im having other problems. i only have 3 gears it will shift into. tranny has about 12k miles on it, but has gone through about 30 miles of a bad adjusted tv cable. also i am runnin a different computer that doesnt hook up to the tranny so it is running in open loop mode. im not too keen on automatic transmissions so if anyone could help me out. i need this to last so i can do a t-56 swap in the summer. my question is, is it a lockup problem or tranny problem itself. it shifts into the other gears hard still.

The lock-up torque converter will not engage without the electrical connector on the trans hooked up to anything.
You can do a search on how to wire it to work.

no, that wouldnt have anything to do with it not going into OD.

try checking your 2-4 servo seal. it it located on the pass side, right behind the bell housing. if the seal binds you lose 4th.

check your fluid, is it bright red? is it dark? you can also try cleaning out the govenor, all the trash in the tranny likes to collect back there for some odd reason.

ps, computer stays in closed loop mode, not open. open loop would mean it is accpeting everything going on and it is taking reading from various sensors to make the engine perform better.,

dont expect the tranny to last then, 700r4 doesnt send the fluid to the cooler until it enters lock up. it wont lock up unless you add a vaccum modulator.

a vaccum modulator replaces the need for a ECM to cause lock up. you can get a kit to install on the 700, jegs has one but its expensive. someone on here had the exact GM parts needed and it was under 80 bucks for everything.

a vacum modulator senses engine vaccum and knows when to enter lock up when you are cruising in sometimes 3rd and mostly 4th.
