shifts back to 2nd @ 90mph???
My 700R4 was rebuilt not to long ago. Shifts outta 2nd like it should at about 65-70 @WOT. Stay on the WOT and when you get up to about 90mph it shifts back into 2nd? Why?

all factory 700R4 valve bodies do this except for the corvette ones and the ones from IROCs and WS-6s i believe. anything else will do this. there are kits that can be bought to modify the valve body to prevent this. it allows a WOT upshift into high gear.

I had a similar issue with one of my numberous 700r4s, can't remember if it was the truck, van, or Jimmy. It would go 2-3 acelerate to about 80, then drop back to 2nd, go into 3, accelerate, 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, then hit 3rd and go. Turned out the TV cable was 1 click TOO tight and the fluid was about 1 qt low.

This same tranny/engine combo was in my other camaro, the only difference is the rear end, and this tranny does have the valve in it that was used in the B4C trannys to allow WOT in OD and it worked fine in the other car so i'll have to click back that cable a few notches and see what happens... but that means it wont shift quite as hard...
Long trip tomorrow so i'll let you know what happens!
Thanks
Shaun

It sounds like you are saying that it kept shifting from 3rd to 2nd and back and forth again? This is just down shifting into 2nd from 3rd and wanting to stay there, hits about 7 grand + when it happens... and it does it everytime consistantly, it seems like it would just stay in 2nd forever untill i let off the gas and if I let it shift into 3rd and flored it again it would shift right back into 2nd.... actually that kinda sounds like what you are trying to say?!?!?

I know all about the WOT 3-4 shift. Vans had it too. Both van 700r4s that I have did it, stock. One came with 3.73s gears, the other 3.08s. With stock P225/70/R15 tires, 3.73 gears, and a 4,000 rpm governor, the 3-4 upshift occurs about 95 mph with the foot on the floor. With my current setup of 3.73 gears, 5,800 rpm governor, P295/50/R17s, I get aerodynamically limited before I can do a WOT 3-4 upshift.

I can't adjust the cable the proper way, the TBI sits too far foreward aparently and the TV cable is pretty much all the way out to the end of it's adjustment... but i gave it a good yank and got a few more clicks out of it, and that did the trick, no more 7k revs at 90mph.
