cheap but good built 700r4
Im looking for a semi-cheap 700R4 shop/website that isnt gonna cost me 2 grand or more after the TC. I bought the Raptor 700r4 used from a member here and it went in less than 2k miles. Im not really looking to spend another 2g or so on one.
Does anyone have experiences with built 700r4s that would only cost me 1,500 or so? I dont know...just anything cheaper than 2k+. Let me know how some of the more well known website are. I know ProBuilt is nice and MAY go with that anyway since everyone has had good experiences but Im looking for a little cheaper if possible. Ive gone through 3 trannies already and I need one that is gonna last for once. I havent been to the site in a long time so I hope my sig still has my engine info in it. Thanks alot.

"Cheap", "700R-4", and "Reliable" are generally never used in the same sentance. You won't spend less that $1500 for just the trans if you plan to use it in any sort of performance application.

Brutalforms formula has a 700r4 behind his 436cubic inch 600 ft lb car. It has less than $500 in parts invested. Converter is not included in the price. It is doing quite well. I know the guy who built it and he does a great job.

Do a search for them on the boards. A good number of people are using them and love them.

Janis Transmission in Akron Ohio built the 700 in my GF's 355. Brutal trans, with 10in 2400 lock up converter ran 1700 or 1800 even with tax. So far so good.
Give Vince Janis a call. He'll set you up. Do a search for the shop on yahoo and hes VERY WELL known with the GN people.

That's the only way a 700 is going to hold up to anything. Trust me, I went through 3 "built" 700R4s.
Then went TH350, and now T56.

Thanks for the replies. I understand about the cheap/reliable sort of thing. Everyone says that you get what you pay for. In alot of cases that is true but I know there are some trannies out there that are built well but not overly expensive. That's what Im looking for. No, when I say cheap, Im not looking for $1000 bucks or something. I know better than that. But I was just looking to save a few bucks. Keep in mind this needs shipped as well. I mean I already bought a used (roughly 6k the guy said) Raptor Stage 3 that blew within around 2k miles. That's an $1800 tranny. I just dont want to go through the same crap and then spend another $2000+ on something I didnt think needed replaced again. I'll check some of these places out but very very open to more suggestions. I hope to make the right descision this time.

i'm selling a built 700R4 right now for 750 if your interested, no torque converter though. My setup is basically the same as yours, around 400 horse or so I would say, right? the tranny was fine behind my motor for the few hundred miles I had on it, and an identical tranny has been behind a friend of mines 355 (450 hp) for a while now, and he has no problems and loves the tranny....so i know mine will have no problem with handling the power that you have...
however, you said you went through a couple of them, and some of you other guys have said the same. The thing is with automatic transmissions, if you build them (like mine) they will handle upwards of 500-600 horsepower no problem. The trick of it is, is keeping the thing cool. The first thing you should get is a stand alone cooler, 2 of them wouldn't hurt if they are small. Run it stand alone, not through the radiator and you'll see huge results..the fluid will stay at like 150 degrees and shouldn't go much above that when your beating on it. If you put parts in your tranny like mine, or the pro built, or even the raptor (i would never buy a raptor, but besides the point), it'll hold the power all day long if its cool, but alot of people don't understand that power doesn't usually break an auto tranny, 99% of the time its done by heat...so i would suggest keeping it cool, and maybe look into the problem before dropping dollars after dollars on something that could be caused by a stupid problem...
if your interested in my trans, you can PM me or email me at klumb15@hotmail.com, it has about 200 miles on it, no torque converter like I said, built for 550-600 horse, and I do have a cooler that I will throw in for $750 bucks, i'm in menominee MI 49858

I'll keep your tranny in mind although I think the "used" factor on the last one my have been part of the problem with mine going on me so early. The first 2 that went were stockers so they were bound to go. The last (the raptor) had the biggest tranny cooler that summit carries so I dont think that heat was a factor.
