I don't know too much about engine work/tranny but I am very eager to learn. I got a couple of opinions and they all said it has a bad Torque Converter. I got the car as a gift so I was prepared for problems. It had a bad carb but my brother and I put a new one in no problem. I love scavenging at salvage yards, and just about every one of them said they would part with a tranny for $200-300. I am at this point ready to replace it alltogether. I have a guy who is willing to do it with me in his shop.
My question...is this car worth repairing? I hear a lot about them being bad cars with crappy engines, but it's all I have right now. I am not interested with racing/going fast with it (yet) I just want it to work properly. I drive it around town to work and stuff, but I know I am doing damage to it every time I drive it.
I am sorry about sounding very noobish, as I am, but hey, that's what these forums are for right? I can let you know any other information you might need to know. I read the 82-92 Camaro repair manual, because they are basically the same thing aside from a few minor details, and I can reference them at any time. Thank you!

Well, whether to repair it or not is up to you. Its your money and your car...
Be leary of JY trannies unless you know that they are in working order or they will offer some type of exchange warranty for it.
Sorry but i just gotta add this... (if i dont someone else will!)
while the lil ol' V6 is out you should considder dropping in a 350!

I was thinking of that actually, how much do they go for? I know jy are shifty but for the price I can take the chance. Also, how hard is it to switch out the TC? Is it really a huge project and worth it rather than the whole tranny or??? Just asking.

Well to put it this way its not much harder to swap out the entire tranny...
To change out the TC you need to either pull the motor or drop the tranny out. pulling the motor is the easiest IMO.
A JY carbed 350 shouldnt run you any more than a couple hundred, that is depending on the year/condition of it.

well i am very biased but the 82 83 84 ones are the best other than maybe the 91 and 92's
happen to love these first three years of the third gen, i think they look the best, front and rear both, i love to see stock factory correct ones, very drool especially the S/E's and T/A's they look very nice the way they came off the line
many makes and models of vehicles didnt recieve very desireable drivetrains hell you could get 6 cyl engines in the 67-69 stuff too, doesnt mean its a bad car
if the body isnt all rusted out or wrecked or soemthing else bad then it has real potentional and should be put back on the road by someone who loves these cars
got pics ?
good luck

Its midnight by me, so I can take picks in the morning. for a 22 year old car, not a single accident...Perfect body with little bits of rust (planning on repainting it after I get the tranny figured out). It's a darker blue/grey color.
The pictures aren't great, so bear with them...and it was raining. I don't know what you want to see but here is a taste of it. The interior is like a tannish color, I can't describe it, but the camera made it look more white.
