2nd servo problems
Last night my second servo popped off while testing out my new shift kit.
Apparently the ring was not on very well.
I have everything I need the problem is the servo will not even come close to getting in enough for the ring to snap. I even took out a thick washer and a thin... before the servo popped off it even went in farther than this...
What should I do? I am just hoping like hell I did not screw something up inside the trans when this servo popped off. Obviously the band was loose. I just really really do not want to drop the pan again... it also makes you wish you put in that drain plug.
I wonder if I should remove more shims?

I got the servo in...
I stuck a screw driver in there, and there was something hung up in there. It feels very springy. Then once I put the servo in, it felt much better. Enough so I could get everything in.
Now I test drove the car. The car now wont go into 2nd or 3rd until 3500 rpms on the dot. What sucks too, is that when you even quart throttle it to second it kicks in so bad if I had airbags those suckers would inflate.
This cannot be normal... It should go into gear sooner than 3500 rpms for second and third when you half throttle it.

well that depends on what the shift kit is supposed to do, if its a hardcore race version it will have a very hard, positive, shift. a servo will do this alone to some extent in a stock trans. are you sure you put the kit in right? and again what are these 'shims' you talk about? im not aware of any servo having removable shims.

On my aftermarket servo, you throw away the inner spring between the first two plates that go on the pin. Then you have 6 shims. 3 thick 3 thin. The amount of shims you use depends on how tight or loose your band is. My vette servo uses shims and no spring.... however I may put the old spring back in so I do not break my neck.
I am pretty sure that the transgo shift kit I installed was done correctly. I found a few mistakes I made and corrected them accordingly. It is pretty straight forward. I drilled all the holes, and added all the right checkballs...
But the 1-2 2-3 shifts are insane hard. I read that they should be very very firm but this is not firm this is pull your seat out from underneath your ***.

well it is 7:30 am your time right now... I would love to call you but I am sure it is too early.
After a whole night of thinking... I thought of something I may have done incorrectly. On the TV plunger valve setup. There is suppose to be a shim then a spring, a spacer then a valve. My kit came with two shims, and I used two shims behind the TV plunger, and I believe I was only suppose to use one.
I am pretty positive I do not have to take the valve body off to replace these shims... Just undo the TV mechanism, remove the roll pin and pull out the plunger and spring. remove one of the two shims, and reinstall.
I will give you a call later dana.

I was right,
I removed the TV valve assembly, and removed one of the shims... and now the car drives and shifts normally. It is funny how a fraction of a milimeter can change the attitude of your car
