Cannot get Torque Converter fully seated!
I bought a 30 spline TC for my 700R4, I can remove and reinstall the old one fully seated 10 times in a row but the new one goes almost all the way in but is like an inch from being fully seated. I have tried everything. I have measured every single dimension, made a play doh mock up to count the splines on the inside... I am clueless...
I need this sucker to fully seat in or else I am hosed. I have tried wiggling the thing in for 10 hours total. I have taken it out a hundred times literally and made sure the two key tabs lined up.
Someone have any insight on why my old TC goes in quick and the new does not fully seat for the last inch.

i usually spin mine back and forth and it'll go in that way, you don't just do a forward motion in, you have to spin the converter at the same time.

I am sure, I took a piece of pine and lightly hammer in it and 30 splines left a mark perfectly.
Yes, I back and forthed it till the cows came home. Why would any one just do it forward? Did I imply I only did it forward?
Anyways, Yes I did all of this. It still will NOT go in... I am at my wits end..
----------
Yes I am sure the input shaft is the same. That mock up I did of the new TC I did of the old to compare. small splines and large are 30 splines. It is also an 86 transmission which was 30 splines anyways I believe

is there any burrs on the converter that might cause it to hang up at all?

not at all, I even filed the key socket, measured in to be exactly the same...
You stick it on. It slides in, move it back and forth, the next socket goes in, then the last socket does not click in. At first I thought it was the key tabs... but they are perfect on both ends.
On the old TC it takes just as long to get on except the last socket goes in after 10 seconds of moving it around.
I marked the tab sockets on the TC and everything. This SOB is fighting me to the bitter end.

i had the same exact problem with mine. counted dozens of times, turned out i was counting the wrong splines. ;-)
I forget what the exact sizes are but you're supposed to be able to tell based on what size 12 pt wrench you can fit over it

I counted both sets... the small and the large... The small splines are the first ones to enter so those are the first click... the second click should be the large splines... which I have gotten that far... and the third is typically the key tabs... and that is where I am stuck.
