4l60E VSS help please
Newb question on your forum...I have a 4l60E that I want to Use with Dana 300 Transfer case. I need to remove the 4 bolt tail housing. My question is: do I need to keep the VSS? What is the exact purpose of the VSS? If it only is used for MPH then I realld dont need it right? Please forgive me but please help.

if i'm not mistaken, the only 4L60E's to have a vss in the tail housing were the 2wd models. how are you gonna bolt a transfer case up to this? if you are trying to convert the 2wd tranny to a 4wd tranny, you will need to take it apart to replace the output shaft.

It is a 2wd version off of a 9C1 caprice. I removed the tail housing, and have a Novak adapter to use in between the tranny and the T case. If the only major thing the VSS is used for is vehicle speed, then I can leave it off. My t case has the gear for my speedo. The LT1 has been rewired and the ECU has been modified.

well, if you know the lt1 has been modified to work without the speed sensor, then you shouldn't need it at all if you are gonna be using a cable setup for the speedometer.
