Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
It was introduced in about 81 or so, and sold well up into the 90s... it's been in everything from trucks to Mustangs to our cars.... all of which are EXACTLY the same, except for being COMPLETELY different.
4th is 1:1. 5th is an overdrive, since the output turns faster than the input; usually by a ratio in the .6:1 to .75:1 range (which varies by what vehicle it was made for, and therefore what ratios the vehicle mfr ordered from B-W).

Dont get a V6 one, its way too much hassle to put in a V8 car. You'll want an 88-92 T5 from an f-body, those are the world class units and slightly stronger than the 83-87 units.
More info can be found by doing a search. This is a very common topic on this board.

Stay FAR away from the V6 ones. They're easy to spot. All you have to do is ask how many splines are on the input shaft. All V6 T5's have a 14 spline input, all V8 F-body T5's have a 26 spline input. I also agree that you should try to get an 88-92 World Class unit. As far as 5th gear ratio goes, the T5's in the TPI cars have a .73 5th, the TBI models have a .63 5th. The .73 5th is the one you want if you have a choice. The .63 5th is too big of a drop from 1:1 in 4th. Last edited by Pat Hall; Mar 16, 2007 at 03:03 AM.
