T-5 From a Mustang

Alright, I dont know if this has been discussed before. And if it was, I didnt search because I have no clue what to even type in.

My friend wrecked his 87 Stang with a 5.0 and T-5. I know GM also called their 5 Speed manual trannies, T-5. My question is , would a T-5 from the stang bolt into a Camaro with a L03? I mean besides the obvious bellhousing swap, but can it be done?

Thanks!

Re: T-5 From a Mustang

i've seen a few posts on corvetteforums.com where they use them in C3's with a small block chevy, i think you need adapters and so on, but i believe they get them to work?

Re: T-5 From a Mustang

Are they stronger? Could you use the internals in a GM WC T-5? Would it be strong enough to put behind a 400hp 383?

Re: T-5 From a Mustang

On the GM T5s, the internals aren't the problem. Its the case itself - its a poor design that flexes under a heavy load (ie. powerful motor, sticky tires). When that happens, the geometry inside goes all to hell and then things start to break.

HELL NO! It wasn't strong enough for a STOCK 220 hp 350. The WC T5 is only rated at 300 ft lbs torque ,max!! You will blow the thing so bad with that motor, I would be worried about losing a leg when parts come through the floor.

So now you've spent outrageous $ to get it bolted in and you still need a different clutch plate to fit the lesser splines, and you have to eliminate your radio to bolt the shifter on(which will now sit in the dash).

Get a GM trans.

As for power, there's a reason GM never put one behind a 350. They'll take more than many people think when driven properly, but they will eventually break.
