tc removal help
Hey guys, i need some help, Im trying to pull my engine and just my engine, I want to use the 700r4 thats in the car.. I got one t/c bolt off, I went to get the other one, and the tc would just spin till the bolt was unable to be reached leaving the other bolt i couldnt get to, So i tried smokingss's plan, to use the crank bolt, i did that and the tc would move, but then when i went to the bolt it would do that again, finally as i was under the car and my buddy spinning the crank bolt, the crank bolt snapped. I tried moving the flexplate with a screw driver, it would work for a bit, but then it would stop, thats the samething when i turned the motor by hand, the tc/flexplate would move a tad, a tad a tad, then stop stop then a little more..how do i get this to come off, am I going to need to pull the trans out? will i ever be able to use the trans again?

Re: tc removal help
Since you snapped the crank bolt you can still use the alternator pulley bolt to spin the engine over. This is a better choice anyway.
Make sure all your spark plugs are out. This way you don't build compression which'll make it a lot easier to turn the engine without snapping bolts.
Once you get access to your flexplate bolt, just wedge a screwdriver through one of the holes in the flexplate. It'll still turn but the engine or bellhousing will stop the turning once the screwdriver makes it there.

Re: tc removal help
the motor that your pulling out is destroyed i assume, and a rod or chunk of rotating assembly is binding up making it impossible to turn the motor over/get to the converter bolts, correct?
in this situation your best bet is to pull the motor/trans together. then separate them on the floor. then you'll be able to get the other converter bolts.
prolly not what you wanted to hear, but if you can't get to the bolts you can't get to the bolts! there's plenty of room in the engine bay to pull the whole sha-bang out as one so get a buddy and good luck.

Disconnect all wires.
Remove transmission crossmember.
Remove motor mount bolts.
That's all you really need to do. You'll have to remove the radiator for clearance. Pulling the driveshaft and starter may make it easier, some even remove the front accessories and distributor.

Re: tc removal help
You will have to pull the DS. Just turn the DS over by hand to get to the other two bolts. You'll have to jack up the rear if you haven't already done so.
