best tranny to get

im in need of a tranny. a darn good one that is.
im building a drag car and i cant seem to find a good trans.
car should hopefully be putting out 550 plus hp with out power adders. i would like to eventryally put a supercharger ontop of that.
so im shooting for 700 or more hp.
problem is i dont know what tranny to get. and a good reliable one at that.
i looked up on the internet and i found a few that seem really good from what i been reading.
they are
Powerglide, TH-350, TH-400 and the 700R4.
i mostly been readiong about the powerglide and the TH-400.
they dont seem to be to bad of price.
between $750.00 to $1300

i have no experiance with thos kind of transmissions.
need all your guys wisdom!!

which will be a good tranns for my car.

Re: best tranny to get

turbo 400 with a brake. DRC in elk grove village, IL built my trans and they do the best work I've seen and have pretty cheap prices. You can buy a fully built th400 to your spec with a trans brake for $1000. Give them a call, ask for Dean (847) 364-5523

Re: best tranny to get

that one doesnt have a trans brake and is more expensive, give drc a call. Whoever you decide to buy a trans from, dont get it off ebay and make sure they are reputable or you'll find yourself buying another trans soon

Re: best tranny to get

trans brake locks reverse and first gear together, and you rev the engine up. When you let go of the button, the trans lets go of reverse. It's the same thing as launching a manual trans except you dont have to have good food control, you just have to release a button.
