Help with T-5 Please.

I recently did an engine swap but I kept my T-5 and all hydrolics for it. It was a LG4 to 305 TPI swap. I have done clutches on numerous T-5's and pretty much know how to do it so that not the problem.

My problem is that my trans wont go into gear... The shifter moves up into where the gear should be but nothing. I did replace the speedo gears. Could i have messed up the shifting mechanism?? if so how do I fix my problem?? Slave cylinder has been bled. Car has new clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and throw out and pilot bearing.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Kyle

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

did you take the shifter off the trans? was the trans in neutral when you did it? it may be possible the shifter ball is not where it needs to be.

Pin can out of the shifter or forgot to re-install the pin?

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

You guys talking about the pin for the selector block in the tail shaft?? I thought the trans was in neutral when I put it back together... There really isn't a way you can screw that up can you?? I think it is the gear box. When the car is running I can go through all the gears and nothing. no resistance. I pulled the shifter off again and checked the selector but everything seems to be correct. Could it be in the gear box?? How does that rod going into the gear box change the gears?? Any way that I could have messed anything up inside?

And for the shifter ball... It goes right underneath the spring in the shift selector right?

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

My TKO600 had a warning that came with the shipping / installation instructions. The paper said something about shifting forks / levers internal can sometimes shift during freight and to make sure the shifter moves freely in and out of all gears. Can move the shifter in and out fine?

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

Yes the drive shaft is in. Its hard to forget that. And yeah. the shifter moves freely. I'm going to take the slave cylinder off tonight and start it with the car in the air and see if its the throwout bearing or slave thats not working right. I'll post up and let you guys know how it goes.

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

What trans is it? What clutch? (part #s ONLY, and detailed description of where the trans came from or its clutch gear spline count ONLY ..... not "stock", "WC", etc.) Is this the same trans and the same clutch that was there before; or what?

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

Yes same trans and clutch. I pulled the slave cylinder off today and put the car in gear and started it. Nothing. Tires didn't spin or anything. The trans came in an '86 irocz with an LG4 motor. As for the clutch it is a spec stage 1 disk and pressure plate. I'm pulling the trans tonight and i'm going to mess with it a little bit and see if i can fix it.

I'm afraid that's the only thing left... I'm all out of guesses as to what you put together wrong. You'll just have to go back and check your work.

The rod is connected to the shift forks (2). I've heard of people breaking a shift fork, but not 2.

See picture 3:

It sound like the pin is either missing or it's not in far enough.

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

So your saying when i take that top cover off... the shift forks will not be attached properly??

Need i remind you that the trans was working fine before the engine swap and before i put the speedo gears in. Could I have pushed one of those pins out on accident while taking the tail shaft housing off or putting it on??

No, I'm assuming that you didn't touch the top cover and there's no way that both shift forks could have come off. Even if one fork did manage to come off, the other one would still work so you would have at least 2 gears.

From your description, it sounds like it's stuck in neutral and no gears work (including 5th and reverse). The only way is either the is clutch stuck or the shift rod isn't moving (pin came out).

Is the shift rod actually moving with the selector block? I think the pin shown in picture 3 is either not in far enough or too far.

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

the block moves with the rod. pulled the slave cyl out yesterday and jacked the car up and ran it in gear and nothing. I was trying to see if it was the clutch but its not.

Re: Help with T-5 Please.

Well I figured out the problem.
Can anyone tell me what this piece is called?? It holds the shift forks solid on the shift rod. With out it there is nothing to hold the shift forks so I cant shift the car.

where can i get it??

Also this is what the 5th gear needle bearings look like.

It's been a while, but:

Thats the part#28 "interlock plate" (figure 5.2 page 5-5)
http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...0-0199_173.pdf

Looks like you need 37,38,39,40,42 as well

I thought there was a tab on part 42 lines up with the notch in the extension housing as well a notch in part 38 when you slide the extension housing back on (at 1 o'clock). It almost looks like tab was at 10 o'clock and got bent over against the bearings when you slid the ext housing back on.

You might be able to pull parts from a V6 or dead V8 T5 as well. Also check a few local tranny shops for their suppliers.
