82-83 TH200 crossmember/torque arm mount?? Or Turbo T/A x-member and mount??
Hey all!
Does anyone have a picture or can they describe to me how the torque arm is hooked up in the 82-83 TH200 3 speed cars? Even a turbo T/A pic?
Don't freak out; I am just trying to get a rolling chassis running again and I want to use what I have. What I don't have is a crossmember or torque arm and mount to put the TH200 back in the 82 Firebird. I will upgrade later, but the car needs to run so that I can get it moving first.
I am on an extreme budget so buying aftermarket stuff is not an option, yet. First the car has to run and drive and then I can upgrade stuff a piece at a time. I already have the engine/tranny/driveshaft and everything else. I just need the factory TH200 setup.
The reason I am asking for pics or descriptions is that it looks like I can't come up with a factory piece/pieces to buy second hand. I do have access to a welder and I am a decent fabricator so I wouldn't mind duplicating the setup if I can see it. I put a 2004R in an 84 T/A once. I ended up using some angle iron - I'm not happy or proud of that one, but it worked. I'd like a more factory approach this time.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Thanks! That cerrtainly helps with the 2004R shot.
I would still like to see a shot with a 200 three speed if anyone can show that; especially how they tied the torque arm up at the front.
Where does the front torque arm mount bolt to on an 82-83 TH200 car?

The torque arm mount bolts to the back of the TH200 case in the tailshaft area. The caveat is that the TH200 does not incorporate a removable tailshaft housing, so you need a Camaro/Firebird case with the torque arm mounting holes in the tailshaft area to do it the OEM way.
I'd post a picture but my TH200 stuff went in the scrap pile a long time ago. I would suggest scavenging your local self-service wrecking yards like Pick-A-Part. Hope this helps.

Well that sucks!!
Oh, well! That means a little more welding on my part, that's all. I really appreciate the description and the help.
Thanks!

Here are a few diagrams from the 82 Camaro Factory Assembly Manual. One shows the torque arm connections to the TH200C tranny and one shows the cross member support. You can estimate the cross member dimensions based on the two given in the diagram, just convert the millimeter dimensions to inches. The thread JamesC refers to has differing info on what cross member assembly was installed on the 82 Camaros. The diagram I am posting looks like what James has on his IROC. The other cross member assembly referenced in that thread is also detailed in the Assembly manual with CANCELED stamped on it. However the cancellation notice is not dated, so it is unclear if it actually got canceled.

Glad you found them helpful. Its too cold to go out in the unheated garage and jack up the car to snap a few pictures.
I also am not to sure how well the pictures would come out as it is quite dirty in that area on my car
. Twenty five years of accumulated grim
