What's my RAR???
What's my RAR???
I Know this is a wicked nEwb question, but i dont know what my RAR is I have a 1989 Camaro IROC-Z 350TPI. About how much HP / Torque can my stock rear take... And maybe this is the wrong place to ask this, I have sub-frame connectors and drag bars on the rear axle how much power can I have before i worry about putting in a roll cage... (ps I do have T-Tops)

If its rear axle ratio I am 99% sure you have a 9-bolt rear end with 2.77 gears. You're going to need a whole new rear end to swap in there if you want to change it, as 9-bolt parts are almost impossible to find. I'm running 12's on my 9-bolt with 3.70 gears and now 4.10 gears, but I was lucky and got mine long ago when they were available.
If you go to the dragstrip, you wont need a rollbar until you run 11.40's. And you'll be a long ways away from that.

Yeah rear axle ratio, I guess im used to crownvic.net its more of a popular acronym, but when do I have to worry about the structural integrity of the car enough to need a roll cage the 383 is somewhere in the neighborhood of 450hp and 500ft ilbs.

worry about it when you:
A. Tear the car at the roof seams at the rear of the window
B. Turn a driveshaft into a corkscrew
C. Rip your motor mounts
D. Lift the front left tire off the ground on takeoff

A 1989 with a 350 TPI has a 9 bolt diff. It came with crappy 2.77 gears. If you have the performance RPO code G92, it will have better 3.27 gears.
I pushed a 3.27 geared 9 bolt into the very high 11's with no problems. I switched to a 10 bolt for better gear options for a couple of years which got me into the low 11's then switched to a 9" when I installed a transbrake. I started with sub frame connectors the first year and only ran high 14's. The second year, after a bunch of changes, I hit 12.0 on the first race of the year and put a 6 point roll bar in before the next race. At the time, you needed a roll bar at 11.99. Now it's 11.49. The 6 point bar stayed in for a few years until I was just about into the 9's. I then took out the roll bar and installed a full cage.
I've never had a problem with my T-tops in all the years I've raced my car.

The RPO codes are on a decal inside the glove box. If the decal is gone or unreadable, you'll never know what options the car came with.
