t5 from an s-10

I was wondering if i can use a t5 from an 89 to 95 s10 (with a 4.3 motor) for my transmission in my '91 firebird with a '79 350 in it(currently an auto). If i can i need to know what i need to do to put it in there and what the differences are. If i can't i would like to know why not...

I don't think you can unless you change the input shaft. The V8's if I recall have a 28 spline shaft and the V6's have a 26 spline shaft. It's been covered alot so do a search for a definite answer.

the s-10 has the shifter in a different spot. the shifter mount would be up under the dash. plus i don't think the s-10 4.3 used a t-5. i thought they used a nv3500.

Re: t5 from an s-10

when i looked it up i found that 89-95 s-10 used a t5 but anyhow would i be able to use an nv3500 then? i would assume not though it a t5 from an s-10 wouldnt work because of shifter location, but i don't understand how the same tranny has a different shifter location either?

Re: t5 from an s-10

tail housing are different as well as the top cover are different as well as the input.

i don't know about the 2.2 engine in the '89-'95 but i believe you ask about the 4.3 which used the nv3500. the nv3500 is still a 5sp but is much more bulky then the t-5.

Re: t5 from an s-10

i didnt even think that my source may have been referring to the 2.2, but would the nv3500 not be a good prospect to put into a third gen then? if it is more bulky then it would be better than a t5 right? but will it fit / or be made to fit easily?

I doubt it will work. You have a 350 c.i. that you want the nv3500 to hook up to? I doubt the time it would take to modify it to work, if even possible, would be worth the effort.
