odd problems with new 700r4 trans

Just had my trans redone and supposedly built to handle more power than I really plan on makeing.Used modified transgo noyoyo kit, corvette servo and such.Been driving it about a month and this problem just seemed to start.I am going to take it back to the place that did it,but I just wanted to run this buy yall first. The 1-2 shift is great.Firm, positive and at full throttle you better have a good handle on the wheel. The 2-3 shift(which is what burned up and put it in the shop)is great as well except right after it shifts firm its like the car falls on its face.Rpms drop by 1000 or so and it kinda bogs the engine. This is at heavy and light part throttle. It seems to drop the same at light or heavy part throttle. It`s almost like when your cruising through town at 45 or 50 and the trans shifts into 4th and lugs the engine.Never had this problem before and it shifts when it should.I had a performabuilt 2500 stall instaled at time of build. The other thing is,it just started this too,It will not hold first anymore.Shifts out between 4500 and 500 grand by its self. Then it holds 2nd and will not upshift to third at wot even if I manualy shift it.I have to back off the throttle to get it to upshift. It has held it to almost 6000 rpms before i let out of it to about 3/4 throttle, then it upshifted. Its kinda like how your 700r4 will not shift out of 3rd into od at wot.Which is a problem as well but I`ve.heard sonnax makes a kit for that. And earlier today I was on the interstate doing about 65 -70 mph and gave it just enough trottle to drop it out of 4th into 3rdand Itmust have dropped to 2nd cause it through me forward and the rpms shot up to like 5500 and rising before I took my foot of the gas.All in about a split second.Anybody got any ideas?Sorry sooo long

Are you sure your tv cable is adjusted correctly? Something might be wrong with the governor if the shift points are off. Pull it out and check if both springs are in.

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

It seemed like it was at first. Most of these issues just started.I figured out what one was.My converter is locking up early cause the vss is sensing a higher speed than I`m doing since I changed gears.

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

GM has a part you can add to the trans to make it shift from third to fourth at WOT. They had that part installed in the B4C Police cars. I remember it being inexpensive from the dealer like 35 bucks or so. I just can't remember the part number. Go to the dealer and ask or ask the local tranny shop, they will know what needs to be added.

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

Ok,I took my car back to the shop and i`m now driving it again. The car still seems to fall on it`s face when it shifts to third.Guy says thats cause the converer is locking up.I think the converter should lock up somewhere in third but it seems to as soon as it hits third. Is something wrong with the converter or is it in the trans? The trans still seems to hold third way to long.I still have to let off the gas to get it to shift when I want it to.Will a higher than stock stall cause the 1-2 shift to be much quicker than before?the 2-3 shift comes quicker also.I`m assuming since I changed to a 3.42 from a 2.73 and went to a 2500 stall is why they seem quicker.Oh yeah,on the highway at about 80 it still seems like it trys to downshift to 2nd when I floor it.I asked the guy who built it if he drove it and he said yes but he didnt drive it hard cause he doesnt like to hot rod his customers cars.I`m going to have to take him for a ride.

Your gear ratio change is the issue your locking up early try this unplug the harness from the trans and I bet the bog stops

Hey.Thanks for the reply.I`m not sure what harness you refer to.What does it do?Why does it,and will it harm anything.Any insight on the other issues?

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

The harness only has to do with lock now you shouldn't leave it unplugged indefinatley but unplugging it will eliminate the converter or trans as the cause of your bog

.I`ll give it a try.I had the proper speedo gear put in.If my converter lock up is controlled by vss shouldnt the proper speedo gear not cause an issue?

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

Reading back over this I would say you need a different governor like is used in taxis and police cars its lighter and will raise your shift points to match the new gears in the rear . The trans shifts based on throttle cable position and the speed the output shaft is turning, LOWER GEARS =MORE REVOLUTIONS there turning the governor faster making for earlier shifts and earlier lockup

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

Hey man, thanks for your time and input but bare with me.My limited knowledge of transmissions and engine building leads me to ask what are obvious questions to some people. What and where is the governor. Can it be replaced simply by removing the pan or does the valve body and such have to be removed? What you say makes sense, seems like it may work cause no matter how we adjust the shift points it`s either too much or not enough if you no what I mean.Cant seem to get it the way I want it,LIKE IT SHIFTED BEFORE.I would love it to shift how/when it did before just a little firmer shifts. This is my first non stock sports car so I`m still learning alot.I`m sure you sell those governors,i just must have overlooked them on your website. How much?thanks againBtw.How do I tell If I have a vss or mechanical speedo.

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

Hey performabuilt man.I finally got around to disconecting the harness to the trans(Dont have alot of free time wiyh work and kids)Took the car for a drive and the bog was gone. The car still shifts a 1,2,3 quicker than I would like but the throttle response in 3 and 4 was the way it used to be before the trans, gear, converter swap.So in my (limited mechanical)mind the converter seems to be locking to early. Is this a tv adjustment problem? We have adjusted several times. The closest we could get it made it where the lightest touch on the throttle on the interstate would kick it down into third.Any suggestions? The problem with the trans down shifting into 2nd at 70 or 80 on the highway when I go WOT pushing the rpm`s up to 6 grand before I let out still persists.Any suggestions on this?I`m not sure if I still have the problem where it will not shift into 3rd at wot. With the harness disconected)It`s hard to find a spot around here to go WOT 1,2,3, since i`m doing almost 80 when it shifts and about 90 after the shift.I have to let out of the throttle to get it to shift into 3rd.Any suggestions on this?Last night it was still doing it.Thanks again

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

Will leaving the harness unpluged cause the trans to burn up or fail early? With the harness unplugged is how I wish it performed.I did however plug it back in.

Re: odd problems with new 700r4 trans

You need to get a lighter weight governor such as comes in a taxi or police car with lower gearing, This would likely solve your issues
