Stock 700R4 ?'s

I recently had to get my tranny rebuilt. I had it done at AAMCO due to their reputation around here. The guy there used to have a Camaro, so I felt even more confident about his work. Upon opening it up they found that it had a shift kit in it, which may not have been installed properly (I don't know). But they rebuilt it back to stock configuration, without the shift kit.

My question is: The first to second shift is kinda slow (expected), but when it does shift, it shifts really hard and squeals the tires very easily. Is that the normal attitude of a stock 700R4? Thanks

Matt

If you feel its shifting to slow i would take it back and have them look at it. Maybe a problem with the TV cable adjustment. Even a stock tranny will shift fast at WOT. It wont hit as hard as one with mods though. But you wont be spinning as much on the first/second shift either.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I think I will try and take it back down there and have them take another look at it just to make sure.

My 700R4 is stock in my 91 fbird and it can spin the tires from first to second on dry pavement at WOT. Of course my tires are getting awfully bald

It cost I think $1400 or so. I don't remember exactly.

The tire spinning isn't really my problem I guess. It is more the extended lag and then extreme shift from first to second. The harder I push it, the worse it is. It does it in the other gears also, but not to the extreme of the 1-2 shift. Thanks

IROCET, that's about how much I paid for my "Lee Myles Special" transmission rebuild, which lasted 2 1/2 years.

I'm only paying $600 for my rebuild that I'm getting done now. It's getting a shift kit and a better stall converter.
