T-56 To do, or not to do?????????
whats up everybody?
Well i just read the tech article on the t56 swap and i want to do it but getting a pro do do it will cost an arm and a leg. So how hard really is it to do? I mean i can bolt everything up but the only thing i am conserned about it is aligning the clutch disk. how exaxtly do i do that. other than that i can get the tranny in. Oh yea one more thing. about how much will everything i need from the j-yard cost,(ballpark)?
well thanx for the help.

It's not too bad. The hardest part is putting in the pedals. Just get a clutch alignment tool to put in the clutch disc. That makes it really easy and they're cheap anyways. You also have to figure out the speedo and trans mount. Overall, I spent $1750 total. If you can't find a trans for $1500 with bellhousing, clutch, and clutch cylinders then keep looking.
Here's a hint: instead of paying $140 for an aftermarket trans mount Take the old mount with your measurements to a welding shop. Tell um to weld each end of the mount to something and cut out the middle so you can retain the right angles. Then just move the middle back the required amount and weld it back in with supports. Cost me $20.

The article I laid down, is a fool proof method of doing a clean installation.
I suppose I should correct the numerous typos, I have found in the article. :-)
The pain is really the pedals. Cutting the mounting holes for the clutch master is a contortion act.
Since you are going with an aftermarket crossmember, the operation is pretty simple. No fabrication is required, only cutting.
The result is fun, and durable.
Aligning the clutch disc is done by the alignment tool. The tool holds the friction disc center, while the pressure plate to flywheel bolts are installed and tightened.
That is the easy part.
The pain is jiggling the transmission itself so that the input shaft slides through all splines, and pilot bearing. No different, than your every day clutch job.
The bleeding process is long, but simple enough.
