Everyone read this...i need all the help i can get

i just put a shift kit in my 700R4. How do you know if the pressure regulator and boost valve is installed correctly? The trans now "jumps" into third gear, which it never did prior to putting in the shift kit. The kit is a B&M stage 2 shift kit. Also, it dosent seem to shift into second as hard as it should. By the way, what would keep the trans from shifting into third at full throttle? It has always done this except for a couple of times when it worked right. But please help...i want to race my car this coming friday and dont need any more embarrassments!

Did you triple check the boost & pressure regulator valves when you put them in? If you did, they're probably okay. If you're unsure, I'd say to drop the pan and find out- luckily you don't need to pull the valvebody to find out. The working area is a little tighter, but it's not that bad. When I re-did mine, I hung a (clean) garbage bag from the transmission. It went from the front of the valve body backwards, and led into a drain pan- that way I didn't get trans fluid in my hair.

As for the 1-2 shift, is your TV cable adjusted by the book? GM Tech did a great writeup on it at: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000895.html

As for the 2-3 WOT upshift; until my trans was rebuilt, mine wouldn't upshift either. I had to let off the gas...

How do you know if the boost & pressure regulator valves are in there right? I have the directions from the shift kit, but its not very detailed.i cant figure out which way the reverse boost valve sleeve goes in. what will happen if it is upside-down? I really need to fix this. Also, will a bad filter o-ring cause this? When i put the filter in, it wasnt a very tight fit. The filter has been puuled in and out 3 or 4 times.

Were they photocopied directions or something? I put the B&M kit in, and it was clear about the orientation of those parts. Admittedly I don't know much more past that; I couldn't tell you how the trans would act.

Did you call B&M's tech line? The #'s in the directions, and on their website. I called a few times regarding other things (trans cooler hose size & how to wash the throttle body), and they were helpful without attitude.

The filter should manage to stay up there on it's own; If you're wiggling it, it'll move a bit. Did you use a new filter with it's new o-ring? Or did you re-use the old o-ring on a new filter, because the original o-ring was stuck in the pump?

you can buy a replacement boost valve made to eliminate unwanted 4-3 shifts which isn't hard to change. Has your tranny been rebuilt lately? To get the shifts you want, you still need to have fairly new clutches or else a kit is pointless. I guess I got lucky installing my own shift kit. Everyone else I know who did it themselves has had trouble. Or maybe my trans-go is just a better kit than B&M.

If your trans is not shifting into 3rd at WOT that means you 3-4 clutches are waisted and pretty soon they will start to slip. Time for a rebuild.

I dont know. The o-ring has been used 3 or 4 times already. When i put the filter in, it was VERY loose, but i needed to get the car going, so i used it anyway. Im thinking this might be the problem. I need to check if the fluid is aerated. Also, if youre going around a turn, it "slips" worse than if youre going straight. So maybe its not picking up enough fluid because of the o-ring? You guys think this could be the problem? Im stumped.

Sounds like the filter fell out.
