thats way too much. I had gears put into my 12 bolt last year and it only cost me $100 in labor. I also got a quote of about 150 from another shop.

Well, what is included for that price. Is it just a gear swap or is it a rebuild/replace the posi unit?? Are all the bearings being replaced?? Any tranny shop can do a cheap gear swap, u need to find out what u are geting for your money....

If labor and parts are included that is a good deal . What really should be of importance is quality. Go to a place with a good reputation as far as quality work.

I'm seein' a big greasy man named clem taking a 16 lbs sledge to 'persuade' the carrier into the housing and using the edge of his roachclip to check pinion depth and backlash @ $100 labor.

Joel, that was great - setting clearance with the roach clip! Umm i mean, what's a roach clip?

1989camarorsrs:
8 mpg on a 305? I get better than that on my carbed '74 350 - get close to 20 highway! And that's after heads, cam, etc... Are you towin a dumptruck or somethin?

A roach clip is a mehcancical tool used by automotive technicians to help them release tension resulting in quality work .lol

well, ASSES I had my rear done a year and a half ago in my 68 Camaro and its been around 18,000 miles since then on the new gears, diff., bearings and seals. So if it was in fact a guy with a sledge then he did a damn fine job.
