700r or th350????

I have a really sweet 89 that I bought..... the only issue I have is that it has the 2.8 L. So I have a couple of 350s that I built and a TH350 and a 700R. So, since you guys are obviously the experts, which should I use for this swap. Im not going to race or rod it.... I know the tranny in it now has the overdrive, and I am assuming that I should use the 700R for the overdrive, but...you tell me. I am also wanting to change the shifter to an aftermarket. The one I saw in Jegs.... said it was a 4 speed shifter.... assuming it is 4 speeds and reverse not including reverse..... Ok now that I have shown my stupidity..... HELP.....
Has anyone done the v6 to 350 swap?

This one shouldnt be that hard.....since My son and I are putting a 350 in his 86 Fiero.... now thats NUTS!!!!!

The shifter you saw sounds like it's for a manual tranny. I could be wrong though.
Personally for a street car, I would go 700R4 for just the reason you stated the OD. Either one would be good but your engine and gas tank will like the lower rpm's of the OD

I think I would rather have the better RPMs as we both agreed.. here is the shifter I like the look and the price of this unit and it is designed to fit in the console www.jegs.com/p/B%26M/745759/10002/-1

go with the 700r. and i have done the swap, not that hard, except for the redoing the harness if you stay fi part. basicly you have to change the front springs, raditor, fuel pump (i think), and the computer, and do something with the senders for the gauges...o and the exhaust. lol sounds like theres more then there is. theres some threads in the engine swap board that explains it all.

You probably would be more happy with the 700r4, unless your f-body isn't your daily driver, and you want some time at the track. That's why most people would use a TH350.

Do a search on that shifter. A lot of guys seem to be unhappy with it, although some love it.

a long TH350 would be the same length as the 700r4 so if you think you want the th350 get the long one that way if you change your mind again the driveshaft could be re-used as it will fit both. go with your gut-if you plan to race it mostly get the long th350.

Re: 700r or th350????

Id say run the 700R4 but make sure you up the line pressure so it holds any extra power you have in the engine, its what i use in my firebird and i get about 25 mpg on the high way not bad for a 89 with 150grand on it for mileage and a 350. Also run a super servo in your 700 if you can makes for nice shifts. costs about 80 bucks.
