What do I need to swap out a 84 700r4 trans to a 87 700r4?
There is three wires that my 84 does not have.
I am going out to check further and will update. The car the 87 trans came out of was a 84 too.
Will it be o.k.in mine?
Anything i have to do?

They both should have 3 wires. Does your car have the 4-pin plug, but just one wire in it? Still computer controlled engine? Sounds as though someone has gotten rid of the computer control, and put in an aftermarket lockup switch. The transmission should just swap right in! The only thing electronically controlled on it is the torque convertor clutch, and the other 2 wires are to tell the ECM when it is in third, and fourth gears.

There were a number of different interal wiring arrangements used in 700R4's, some of them had a single wire carrying +12v with the solenoid grounded internally. If you're worried about the wiring, you can pull the pans off of both transmissions and swap the wiring harness and switches between the two valve bodies.

It will work as is, but you may not get torque converter lock-up unless you get the wiring straightened out.

If you swap them as-is, the converter will probably lock up in all gears except 1st. This isn't such a bad thing, but it can be annoying having the engine bog and surge in 2nd as the clutch locks and unlocks. You probably have all the parts you need to make everything work properly, since your car (I'm guessing a Canadian LG4) didn't have a computer originally and the new transmission should have the pressure switches you'd need.
Send me an e-mail if you want and I'll try to explain more.
